WALK TO COVA DO VAPOR

Stefano

ABOUT THE TUTOR

Stefano was born in Milan and lived in Lisbon and Barcelona before moving to London in 2013. With a background in architecture and urban planning, he has come to believe that cities, to a good degree, eventually end up shaping themselves, no matter how much effort urban planners put in their good design, in a continuous transformation and re-confirmation process that deeply affects concepts like identity, belongingness and sense of community. Photography, he believes, is the most effective tool to capture the essence of the transformations we endure, deciphering the complexity of the world we live in.

ABOUT THE WALK

The walk offers a half-day trip to Cova do Vapor, an illegal settlement located on the estuary of the Tejo river. Entirely self-built by its residents on a conflictive and marginal territory, Cova do Vapor arises as a paradigmatic example of an “un-planned” city struggling against the effects of Globalisation. The walk will give the opportunity to visit the village and to walk through the unique urban environment that surrounds it.

 WHAT YOU WILL NEED

Please bring confortable shoes and about €7 euros to pay for transport (ferries). Lunch will take place at Cova do Vapor (not included in the price).

DATE                         Sunday 31st January

TIME                           11.00 – 16.45

VENUE & PLACE        Participants will be provided details about meeting place.
